Bertie’s Berry Smash

Bertie’s Berry Smash

CategoryDifficultyIntermediate

This delicious cocktail was created by Lu Brow, one of the most well known and beloved mixologists in New Orleans and is the house mixologist at Brennan's. This cocktail plays off the various sweet and savory notes of Bertie's Bear Gulch Bourbon and blends the sweet and savory of strawberries and thyme. We listed it as an intermediate level recipe only because it calls for thyme simple syrup, which we know all of you can make at home, but adds a little more time and complexity.

2 oz Bertie's Bear Gulch Bourbon
 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
 0.75 oz thyme simple syrup
 4 drops orange bitters
 2 strawberries (sliced and muddled)
 1 strawberry for garnish
 1 sprig thyme for garnish
1

In a cocktail shaker muddle strawberries.

2

Add fresh lemon, thyme syrup, and whiskey along with ice

3

Shake well and strain over crushed ice

4

Garnish with a sliced strawberry and thyme

5

(optional) To make thyme simple syrup
Combine 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup very hot water and mix well. Place 1/4 cup fresh thyme into mixture.
Allow to steep for 30 minutes. Double strain into a clean container. Will keep for 3 weeks in a cool environment.
